Blepharoplasty

As we all know, gravity and aging can cause “sagging” of eyelid skin.  This can become a major problem with vision, especially in the upper and lateral visual fields, when skin droops over the upper eyelids.   Puffiness and “bags” under eyes can also lead to a tired or sleep deprived appearance.  Your doctor can be treat these areas by  making incredibly fine incisions in the natural lines and creases of the eyelids. With this approach,  excess skin and fat can be removed to lead to a more youthful and rested appearance.  Also, the removal of redundant skin from the upper eyelid will usually greatly improve vision.  Many patients actually feel like a “curtain” has been raised above their eyes allowing for better vision.  For your safety and comfort, these procedures can usually be performed in the convenience of our outpatient surgery center under IV anesthesia.

Your medical insurance may pay for part of the cost of surgery if your vision is impaired by the excess skin.  A simple visual field test can be performed by your eye doctor and will be submitted along with current photographs taken in our office.  Because all insurances are different, we recommend you check with your carrier to determine your coverage.
